Disneyland with Mom: Happy Mother’s Day!

Happy Mother’s Day!

In honor of Mother’s Day, I thought I would dedicate this post to my mom since I can’t be with her in person. (My family lives in North Carolina!) My mom was the one who turned me into the Disney-loving fanatic that I am, so I took the time find out why SHE likes Disney so much!

Why do you like Disney?

I love Disney because of the happiness it brings to so many.  It allows you to use your imagination and experience so much joy in different ways.  Regardless of your age you can’t help but be happy while watching a Disney movie or enjoying a Disney park.
Even as an adult I have my work office setup as all Disney.  Everyone who comes to my office always says you can’t help but be happy when in this office.  That is the essence of Disney.  You can’t help but be happy.

When did you first go to Disneyland?

Growing up we could never afford going to Disneyland so I did not go until I was 17 and was able to pay for myself.  I went with friends who had been there many times.  I remember thinking what an incredible experience which to them was just the norm.  The details of every little thing of Disneyland just makes you want to come back.  I also experience or see something new with every Disneyland visit.

What is your earliest Disney memory?

Growing up my mom always had us watch the classic Disney movies.  While most people think of the animation films, Disney has so many classic live action movies.  Such as Old Yeller, Pollyanna, The Shaggy Dog and the Absent-Minded Professor.  I made sure my kids got to experience those original classics from Disney.

What is your favorite Disneyland memory?

There are so many great memories I have at the Disneyland park.  Great rides, foods, and shows.  How can you not take away so many memories?  Since this is my daughter Amanda’s blog I will do a memory with her.  Amanda never would miss the live action shows.  One of her favorites was Pocahontas.  I can remember her around 4 or 5 mesmerized with the magic of the show.  At the end they blasted out all these colorful leaves that went with the Colors of the Wind song.  Amanda made sure we stayed and collected as many of the colorful leaves to take home with us.  Now that is true Disney magic.

What do you like to do when you visit Disneyland?

Now that I am older, visiting Disneyland is less about the ride and more about the experience itself.  When I visit now I do my “must do” rides but then I enjoy pin trading, eating, shopping and just enjoying the atmosphere.

What tips do you have for other Disney moms visiting the parks?

Don’t try to do everything in one day.  If you have small kids and plan too much you will be greatly disappointed.  Have things to do while waiting in line to keep everyone occupied.  Take regular breaks for snacks and drinks.  If you get the chance, try Disneyland without kids. You will be surprised how much more you notice and enjoy everything about the park.  Go to rides and shops you normally would never visit with the kids.  Believe me, you will love it.

What is your favorite ride?

My favorite ride is Pirates of the Caribbean.   I just love that ride.  It is a great ride to cool off on a hot day.  It last pretty long and no matter how many times you go on it you always notice something new.

Where is your favorite place to eat in the parks?

I love Pizza Port when I got with the family as there is a lot of variety.  If going with no kids I love Blue Bayou for a more adult dining experience.

What are your favorite Disneyland snacks?

Must have snacks include a Dole Whip, churro, and I definitely love the Gibson Girl Ice Cream Parlor on Main Street!

Who is your favorite character?

Favorite character is Goofy.  If eating outside the park then a must try is Goofy’s Kitchen, especially for breakfast.  The kids love it!!!
Special thanks to my mom for letting me write about her!

To all the mothers, grandmothers, mother-figures, and the like out there, Happy Mother’s Day! We wouldn’t be there without you!
